Welcome to our church!

Hello, I'm the Rev. Rufus Mclean and I'd like to thank you for visiting our church website. I also like to tell you a bit about myself. I have worn many hats in my life, that is I have done a lot of things beside being a minister. In fact, I undertook several careers before I decided that God was calling me into the ministry. My first career was that of a geologist. I worked in the Rocky Mountains in the energy exploration business for about eight years. I have also worked as a computer programmer for the banking industry. It was not until I was thirty-two that I left the secular world and went into the ministry. I'm now 52 years old. I guess that makes me a veteran of the ministry. I am also married to my wife Natalie. We have one child (Marilyn) and two dogs!

Ministry is both difficult and rewarding, but I believe God has called me to this task. My calling at Hollywood Church is to proclaim the supremacy of the Christian faith. In a world that believes all religions believe the same thing, or believes that it does not matter what one believes, I proclaim that Christ is different.it does matter what one believes. Beliefs have consequences not only for the individual, but for a society as well. The message of Christ is unique and different from anything that has been proclaimed in the history of the world. I want others to know the great truths of the Christian faith so that they would know that there is a hope for them and the world. ANNOUNCEMENTS

TODAY we again welcome Will Haddock and his wife Raina.  Please make them feel at home here at Hollywood Presbyterian Church.

TODAY is Father’s Day. We would like to wish all the Father’s a Happy Father’s Day and keep all Father’s who are no longer with us in our prayers.

TODAY  - Is also Senior Recognition Day. We honor Bradley Brewington, husband of Amanda Ennis Brewington.  Brad graduated from East Carolina University with a Major in Art.

The Session will meet today at 4:00 p.m.

Praise & Worship Practice will meet tonight at 7:00 p.m.

There will be a congregational Meeting June 28th immediately following our worship Service (10:00 a.m.) for the purpose of (1) voting, if they choose to do so at this time, to elect our Interim Nominating Committee as a Designated Pastor Nominating committee for the sole purpose of presenting a candidate as Designated Pastor.  Their search is leading them in the direction of a Designated Pastor instead of an Interim; (2) if they have such a candidate, to vote to call the candidate to Hollywood Presbyterian Church and (3) to approve the terms of call for the candidate.

If you received a “Welcome Packet” from a greeter, please fill out the “Lets Get Acquainted” card and place it in the offering plate.  The information is confidential.

In our uncertain economic times, if you know of someone in the community that is in need of financial help, please call the church office or put a note in the Presbyterian Men’s box.  All requests will be confidential.

It’s that time again to nominate for Presbyterian Woman of the Year. Please have all nominations into Lisa Wiggs  by July 12th.

The Presbyterian Women are taking on the project to publish a 2009 edition of the Ladies of the Church cookbook.  The goal is to have all recipes colleted this summer and the cookbook published in the fall in time for Christmas.  Please pick up the recipe collection recipe sheets on the display in the narthex and return the promptly in the same area.  It would be great to have at least 4 recipes per family unit.  The sooner we begin, the sooner we’ll have our new cookbook!

We have a wonderful local Christian Outreach Ministry that is operated by Ms. Halstead, whom many of you know and love.  Our covenant with this mission called God’s Love is to provide a box of canned goods each month from our congregation. Though times may be tough for us, there are always others that may have it tougher.  Let’s continue to remember God’s Love as we bring our donated canned goods for our God’s Love donation box. God loves it, when we share.

 Thank you for your many suggestions in the External Ministries 5th Sunday Night suggestion box. Please continue to drop your ideas in the box. Who knows, your idea might be the next one chosen!

There are only a few days left before vacation Bible School!  If you have volunteered to help, please check the vacant classroom across from the nursery for schedules and supplies.

VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL will be June 26, 27 & 28. 
Friday night the 26- a meal will be served time 5:30 pm VBS start @ 6:00 to 8:00.
Saturday the 27-- start @10:00 to 12:00 pm and lunch will be served from 12:00pm till 12:30pm.
Sunday the 28 --start @ 3:00pm till 5:00pm and Ice cream afterward.
Do  you, your committee, or your church group want to have a special announcement or other information placed on the church sign?  Simply fill out a form IPF-1.  You may get this form from the table in the Sunday school Lobby.  After you complete the form, please return it to the church office.  Guidelines for completing the form are located on the bottom of the form.  IF you have any questions or concerns, please contact Jackie Rouse or Vickie Riddle.
OUR NEW SUMMER HOURS.  Sunday school will be at 8:45 a.m. and Worship Service will begin at 10:00 a.m.  We will return to our regular schedule on September 13, 2009.

OUR DAILY BREAD daily devotional is now available on the table in the Narthex.

Children’s Church will resume in September.

Our guest speaker next Sunday will be Will Haddock.

The beautiful flowers placed in the sanctuary today are in loving memory of J. B. Rouse and Zonie Boyd by Joe and Zula Rouse.
