The congregation was chartered as a church on May 9, 1943 by Albemarle Presbytery, after serving as a Sunday school for the surrounding community for many years. Dr. Robert Boyd was the organizing pastor coming from First Presbyterian of Greenville, NC. The former building was known as Hollywood school because of the Holly trees outside of the building. It was purchased by the congregation and land was donated by Miss Annie Carroll. Since 1943, 13 different pastors have led the congregation which have been yoked with Chicod Presbyterian Church in 1973. In 1997, many faithful Meadowbrook Presbyterian Church membership rolls were placed with Hollywood.
Hollywood Presbyterian Church has marked growth since 1989. In 1993, the congregation took a challenge of "A Venture of Faith" as a major building renovation and addition was accomplished. The Carroll-Tyson Fellowship Hall, constructed behind the sanctuary in 1973, was connected to the sanctuary with an education hall/administration suite. At the same time the sanctuary was completely renovated, enlarging the chancel and offering a physical openness that the church had never experienced before. In 1999 the "Youth Center" was completed upstairs. Our current membership is nearly 200 active members in addition to baptized children and regular visitors. We welcome warmly all who will come.
